11. Cookies and Tracking
The Fellow mobile app does not use cookies. However, our web-based services and third-party providers may use similar technologies:
11.1 Analytics
We may collect anonymized usage data to understand how users interact with the Service.
11.2 Third-Party Services
Our third-party service providers may use their own tracking technologies according to their privacy policies.
11.3 Fellow Friend Widget
The Fellow Friend chat widget uses browser local storage for functional purposes only, as described in Section 15.6, and sets no advertising or analytics cookies.
12. Third-Party Links
Fellow may contain links to third-party websites, services, or content. This Privacy Policy does not apply to third-party services. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you access through Fellow.
We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party services.
13. Push Notifications
With your permission, we send push notifications for:
- New followers and follow requests
- Likes and reactions on your content
- Comments and replies
- Messages in Lines
- Circle invitations and activity
- Event invitations and reminders
- Mentions and tags
You can disable push notifications at any time through your device settings or the Fellow app settings.
14. SMS Communications
Fellow uses SMS (text messaging) to support event-related features for guests who do not have a Fellow account.
14.1 SMS Opt-In
During the guest RSVP process on our event pages, you may choose to opt in to SMS communications by checking the consent checkbox. Opting in is voluntary. If you opt in, you may receive:
- Event reminders: Sent approximately 24 hours and 1 hour before an event you've RSVP'd to
- Event updates: Messages from the event host about schedule changes, cancellations, or other event details
Phone verification codes are sent as part of the RSVP process regardless of your opt-in preference, as they are required to verify your identity.
14.2 Message Frequency and Charges
SMS frequency depends on event activity. You may receive up to approximately 5 messages per event. Standard message and data rates from your carrier may apply. Fellow does not charge for SMS messages.
14.3 Phone Number Handling
- Guest phone numbers are collected solely for RSVP verification and event communications
- Phone numbers are stored in hashed form (SHA-256) in document identifiers to prevent exposure of raw phone numbers
- We do not use guest phone numbers for marketing, advertising, or any purpose unrelated to the event
- Your SMS opt-in preference is stored alongside your guest RSVP record
14.4 SMS Provider
SMS messages are sent through Twilio. When we send you an SMS, your phone number and message content are processed by Twilio in accordance with their privacy policy.
14.5 Opting Out
You may opt out of SMS messages at any time by:
- Replying STOP to any SMS message from Fellow
- Unchecking the SMS consent checkbox when RSVPing to an event
- Removing your RSVP from the event
For help, reply HELP to any SMS from Fellow or contact support@fellow.so. If you create a Fellow account, your guest RSVPs are migrated to your account and future communications are delivered as in-app notifications instead of SMS.
15. Fellow Friend (AI Assistant)
Fellow Friend is an AI assistant that Organizations on Fellow ("Brands") can add to their websites and online stores to answer questions from their visitors. This Section explains what we handle when you chat with a Fellow Friend, and how we handle a Brand's Fellow Friend data. It applies together with the rest of this Privacy Policy.
15.1 Who Is Responsible
When you chat with a Fellow Friend on a Brand's website, the Brand decides why your conversation is collected and how it is used, and Fellow processes it on the Brand's behalf. In the language of the GDPR, the Brand is the controller and Fellow is the processor; under the CCPA, the Brand is the business and Fellow is its service provider. For requests about a conversation, the Brand is the right first contact, and we will help them respond. For a Brand's own account and configuration, Fellow is the controller.
15.2 What We Collect When You Chat
Information you provide
- The messages you type, and the replies generated for you
- Your email address, only if you choose to enter it, in one of two places: to subscribe to the Brand's newsletter, or to ask a person at the Brand to follow up by email (a "handoff")
Information collected automatically
- A random session identifier stored in your browser so your conversation continues across pages of the same site
- The web address (hostname) of the site where the Fellow Friend is installed, and the time of each message
- A one-way hash of your IP address, used only to limit abuse of the chat service. It cannot be reversed into your address and is not linked to your conversation
- When you subscribe to a Brand's newsletter, your IP address and the time of your subscription, kept as evidence that consent was given
What a Fellow Friend does not collect
- It does not read your browsing history, other tabs, clipboard, camera, or microphone
- It does not set advertising or analytics cookies and contains no third-party trackers
- It does not access your account or order history with the Brand. Where a Brand has connected its store, the Fellow Friend can see the Brand's product catalog, not customer records
- It does not remember you across different Brands' websites
Please do not type passwords, payment card numbers, government identification numbers, or health information into a chat. A Fellow Friend will never ask for them, and Brands agree not to solicit them.
15.3 How the AI Works
- Reply generation: Your message, the recent conversation, and the Brand's configured knowledge are sent to Anthropic, whose Claude models generate the reply. This content is not used to train Anthropic's models.
- Finding relevant information: The Brand's content is converted into numerical representations (embeddings) using Cloudflare Workers AI and stored in Cloudflare Vectorize so the Fellow Friend can answer from the Brand's own material. Your question is embedded the same way to run the search; the embedding of your question is not stored.
- Handoffs: When you ask for a person, or the Fellow Friend cannot help, it offers a card where you can leave your email. If you do, the conversation up to that point is emailed to the Brand's support addresses and the Brand replies to you directly.
- Accuracy: Replies are generated by a statistical model and can be incomplete, out of date, or wrong, including about prices, availability, and policies. Confirm anything important with the Brand. Replies are not medical, legal, financial, or other professional advice.
- No decisions about you: A Fellow Friend does not make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you, and Brands agree not to use it that way.
15.4 How Fellow Friend Information Is Shared
- With the Brand: Everything you type into a Brand's Fellow Friend is available to that Brand, together with any email address you provide and the time. The Brand's own privacy policy governs what it does with that information.
- With service providers: Anthropic (reply generation), Cloudflare (embeddings and search), Resend (handoff and newsletter email), and the other providers listed in Section 3.3, each under contracts that limit their use of the information to providing services to us.
- Not sold or shared for advertising: We do not sell Fellow Friend conversations and do not share them for cross-context behavioral advertising.
15.5 Information We Collect From Brands
- Fellow Friend configuration: the character's name and image, personality and voice settings, greeting and starter questions, FAQs, key information and knowledge documents, training notes, corrections, example conversations, escalation rules, off-limits topics, and the email addresses that receive handoffs
- Content a Brand asks us to import: pages from its website, and its product catalog, collections, and pages when it connects a Shopify store. We do not import a store's customer or order records
- Conversations visitors have with the Brand's Fellow Friend, and the analytics we derive from them for the Brand
15.6 Local Storage in the Chat Widget
The Fellow Friend widget uses your browser's local storage, not cookies, for three things: the conversation and session identifier for the site you are on, a short-lived cache of the Fellow Friend's name and appearance, and a note that you closed a sign-up prompt. These are functional and are not used to track you across sites. You can clear them by clearing site data in your browser.
15.7 Retention
- Conversations and handoff records are kept for as long as the Brand's account is active, and are deleted within 90 days after the Brand closes its account. Brands may request deletion of conversations at any time.
- Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe or the Brand deletes its list. After you unsubscribe, your address is kept on a suppression list so you are not emailed again.
- Abuse-prevention counters (the hashed IP address and per-session message counts) are kept for 1 to 2 days.
15.8 Your Choices and Rights
You can stop chatting at any time, clear the widget's stored data in your browser, and unsubscribe from any Brand email with the link in that email. To access, correct, or delete a conversation you had on a Brand's site, contact the Brand, which is responsible for deciding on the request. If you contact us at support@fellow.so instead, we will forward your request to the Brand and assist them. Your rights under Sections 9 and 10 apply to Fellow Friend information as well.
15.9 Children
Fellow Friend is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and UK), and Brands agree not to install it on sites or services directed to children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through a Fellow Friend, contact us and we will delete it.
15.10 Data Processing Addendum for Brands
Brands that need a written data processing agreement (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR, or the CCPA) can request our Data Processing Addendum at support@fellow.so. It incorporates the EU Standard Contractual Clauses for transfers to the United States and our service-provider commitments under United States state privacy laws.
16. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by:
- Posting the new Privacy Policy in the app
- Updating the "Last Updated" date
- Sending you a notification (for significant changes)
Your continued use of Fellow after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.
We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
